Recording: A Portrait of Ignatius Sancho

The Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice and Mason Gross School of the Arts have kindly provided support for the Raritan Players’ forthcoming recording, A Portrait of Ignatius Sancho: Music and Letters of an Eighteenth-Century Black Englishmen , due to be released on the Centaur label in 2024. 

The recording offers a new account of Sancho’s songs and instrumental music, and it will include a newly commissioned set of songs by Trevor Weston, which will set excerpts from Sancho’s letters to music. Sancho will thus appear on this recording as both composer and writer, and Weston’s compositions will respond to and reflect on the continued relevance of Sancho’s story today.
